About Us
Passionate about using numbers to empower your business
Every business should be using their numbers to empower them, make more profit and create financial freedom. However, unfortunately, many do struggle. Whether you’re a tiny business that gets bogged down with bookkeeping and their end of year tax return, or you’re a bigger company with many transactions but no finance-savvy person managing them, numbers can be overwhelming.
Accounting is not just a bunch of paper and receipts at the end of the tax year. These numbers mean something if you know what you’re doing with them. CB Accounting is passionate about helping businesses understand their numbers so they can create the financial success they very much want and definitely deserve.

Our Team

Claire Butler
Not ‘just’ an accountant and founder of CB Accounting
“Yes, I’m a fully qualified accountant, but I also offer a lot more than your standard mainstream accountancy practice! Sound interesting? Keep reading.
Most of my clients come to me either because they realise they can’t do everything themselves, or they are sick of the substandard service they’re receiving from their current accountant. If you can relate to either of these situations, you’re in the right place. Having trained in accountancy over twenty years ago and then moved into management accountancy, it’s in my DNA to help you to understand your numbers.
That’s why, in 2018, I set up CB Accounting to apply my knowledge and experience to help small to medium-sized businesses use their numbers to grow, identify opportunities, and reduce those pesky tax bills. Plus, I’ve trained my entire team to my exceptionally high standards to be sure everyone gets the same quality of service. We might not be the cheapest accountancy firm, but we are certainly the most thorough. Meaning you’ll save more money in the long term.” Claire Butler
Fiona Charnley

After working for a local chartered surveyors for several years, Fiona decided to join the CB Accounting team and retrain as a bookkeeper. Currently working towards full accountant status, she is just as passionate as Claire about helping businesses to use numbers to empower their business and work smarter, not harder.

Five things to consider when hiring an accountant

Connection
The basis of any good relationship is honesty. You should be able to talk openly with your accountant and understand everything they are explaining to you. If they baffle you with overly complex tax terms, they might not be the right accountant for you.

Convenience
Your accountant should be flexible and make your life easier. Think about their location, whether you need them to pick up/drop off paperwork or if they have systems set up to make your life run like clockwork.

Compatibility
You’d like to regain some work-life balance and/or control over your financial management. Proactivity in any accountancy firm is key. Most people believe an accountant will just look after annual accounts and tax compliance. However, that’s only a small portion of what a good accountant can – and absolutely should – be doing for you.

Cost-Efficiency
The cheapest option is unlikely to be the best option. However, you need to make sure your accountant is cost-effective. Are they freeing up your time and increasing your profit? If not, they should be!

Contactability
Establish your preferred contact time and method before you sign any contracts. Less contact often means lower costs but can make it difficult to ask questions or spot issues. It’s important that you’re satisfied that the person in charge of your account understands your business and knows it inside out.
